Kurt’s landscaping career began at age 14 when he started working for Bland Landscaping during summers and school breaks. He attended North Carolina State University, where he earned degrees in agriculture business management and horticulture science. He spent several years in Fremont, CA before returning to North Carolina and Bland Landscaping in 2002. As the president of the company, Kurt is actively involved in the many disciplines of landscaping, gardening, urban ecology, and operating a sustainable business.

Kurt is a Landscape Industry Certified Technician, a Landscape Industry Certified Manager, a North Carolina Licensed Irrigation Contractor, a Certified Permaculture Designer, and a Certified Stormwater BMP Maintainer. He is also certified in First Aid, CPR, and AED by the American Red Cross.

He and his wife, Meredith, live in Raleigh with their three Labrador retrievers. Kurt is a sustainability advocate and enjoys growing his own organic foods. He is passionate about live music, SCUBA diving, and traveling.
