Our featured project for this issue is The Greens at Centennial Campus, non-student luxury apartments overlooking Lonnie Pool Golf Course, in the renowned NC State Centennial Campus. The property was developed and is managed by Capital Associates, one of the Triangle’s premier developers. Piedmont Land Design was the Landscape Architect for the project, and Bland Landscaping provided the landscape/irrigation installation and current grounds management for the property. As alumni and supporters with a long standing relationship with the NC State University, this project provided a unique opportunity for Bland Landscaping to showcase our expertise on Centennial Campus.
The Greens at Centennial Campus offer three main floor plans with options for each, studio apartments, 1 bedroom, and two bedroom units. The landscaped outdoor amenities include a salt-water pool with tropical flower pots through the warm season, lush courtyards in each building with outdoor cook out areas, outdoor game rooms with lounge areas and flat screen HD TV’s, fenced in dog park, and clubhouse equipped with a fitness center.
Like all successful projects, The Greens at Centennial Campus started with collaboration between the developer, landscape architect, and landscape contractor early on in the process to achieve the vision for the project while staying within budget. The front end collaboration involved sourcing plant material and sending photos of the nursery stock to the developer, increasing specimen trees throughout the property to provide a more mature look, decreasing the size of some of the container material where it made sense to do so, and substituting certain species of plant material based on availability. The collaboration continued during the project making adjustments in the field based on actual site conditions which included adding screening material for utilities, filling in gaps, and substituting turf areas with natural areas where the site conditions were not suitable for grass.
