Our Commitments
Community
Bland Landscaping was founded on a strong commitment to the local community, a value that is still an integral part of the way we operate. We have a deep connection to the place we call home, and we strive to make it a better place.
We offer a wide range of community service and volunteer opportunities to encourage our employees to be active community stewards. All upper management and office employees are required to dedicate at least 16 volunteer hours each year, and a majority of them exceed this expectation.
Learn more about our commitment to community and environment by watching the video, above.
As a company, we volunteer with dozens of local charities and participate in a host of community events throughout the year. We also donate countless hours, services, materials, and financial contributions to non-profit organizations that are making a difference in our local communities.
Environment
We believe in operating as a sustainable company, improving our community, and reducing our impact on the environment. Giving back is integral to the culture of our company, and we are always seeking new opportunities to be good stewards of the world around us.
As part of our commitment to the community and environment, we were one of the first companies in the nation to become Green Plus Certified. This is a rating process where our operations were evaluated by the Green Plus organization. Our processes were scored for our efforts to reduce our environmental footprint, to give back to employees and the community, and to maintain sound business and governance practices.
We strive to be an industry leader by exemplifying that a business can operate profitably while reducing negative impacts on the environment. The landscaping industry traditionally relies heavily on the use of fuel, chemicals, and natural resources. We are proactive about identifying innovative opportunities to reduce our environmental impact, while continuing to provide quality service. In a demonstration of our commitment to sustainability, we recently committed to reducing our insecticide use to only those listed on the San Francisco Tier III list.
We are a paperless organization that operates using a cloud-based ERP platform, along with an online HRM suite and web-based learning tools that empower our employees in the field through technology and training.
Other focus areas for our sustainability initiatives include:
- Reducing waste at the office and in the field through robust recycling programs
- Reducing use of fossil fuels and toxic chemicals
- Reducing emissions produced in landscaping services
- Testing out new equipment and purchasing energy-efficient equipment
- Collecting and using rainwater, conserving water, and reducing potable water use
- Investing in technology to make crews more efficient
- Education for vendors, clients, and employees on sustainable landscaping practices
- Buying soil conditioners and compost from green waste and enzyme-growing medium
- Company volunteerism required for managers and office staff
- Charitable giving in the community
- Benefits for employees at all levels
- Horticulturally-correct landscaping practices
- Innovative new services and alternatives to traditional services
- An endowment dedicated to horticultural education
