Preparing Brine Rigs in Apex

Brine rigs perfectly lined up and ready for round two. 5,000 gallons sitting patiently, waiting on darkness to fall and the wheels to start turning.

Over the next three nights, our crews at Bland Landscaping Company will be covering more than 325 sites across the Triangle, applying brine ahead of incoming weather. Night work gives our drivers clear access to parking lots, loading docks, and main thoroughfares—when efficiency and safety matter most.

These teams are based out of Apex, navigating 10 counties to support three local branches. Long nights, tight timelines, and zero room for error. I can’t thank them enough for putting in the work when most people are asleep.

For me, this is the part I enjoy most: The logistics. Mapping efficient routes, sequencing stops, and making sure every piece lines up to get a massive operation completed on time. Driving is just the final step.

Before that comes:

  • Mixing the brine to the correct salinity
  • Loading and safely securing the rigs
  • Testing and maintaining equipment so hopefully it doesn’t break down 50 miles from the shop.

I sure don’t do all of this by myself, and can’t be grateful enough for the many coworkers that chip in to help get all of this set up.

A lot of moving parts that, with the right planning, come together like a giant game of Tetris.

One last piece of the puzzle: Taking a delivery of rock salt that has traveled across multiple states to our Apex facility this early evening. These 23 tons in addition to the existing 40ish will be one of the main ingredients Bland Landscaping Company will use as we are out in full force over the next few days serving up our version of asphalt margaritas all over the Triangle!

Now we wait until dawn!

Stay safe.
