Proper pruning keeps your community looking its best, supports healthy plant growth, and protects the long-term value of your landscape. Here’s what property managers should know.
What Pruning Does
- Improves plant health and structure by removing dead, crossing, crowded, or poorly placed branches.
- Encourages fuller growth and better flowering when timed around the plant’s natural growth and bloom cycle.
- Enhances safety by keeping plant material from blocking signs, walkways, windows, lights, and intersections.
- Supports long-term beauty and value by helping plants stay balanced, scaled to their location, and less likely to need premature replacement.
Maintenance Pruning vs. Rejuvenation Pruning

Maintenance pruning keeps plants clean, shaped, and properly sized through light to moderate cuts. It manages seasonal growth, removes problem branches, and keeps plants clear of walkways, windows, signage, and buildings.

Rejuvenation or renewal pruning is used for overgrown, woody, or declining shrubs. It may look dramatic at first but it encourages fresh growth, restores shape, improves visibility, and can extend plant life. This level of pruning is a strategic service designed to restore plant health, structure, and long-term appearance. As a specialized service, rejuvenation pruning is not included in standard maintenance contracts and will be recommended and quoted separately as needed.
After Pruning & Healthy Regrowth: Rejuvenation
Immediately After Pruning
Selective cuts remove older wood to open the canopy.
Healthy Regrowth
Healthier, more attractive plant with improved growth and curb appeal.
Not all plants need rejuvenation pruning. Your local team evaluates plants before recommending significant pruning. Newly installed plants, stressed or diseased shrubs, certain evergreens and conifers, or plants that have outgrown the available space may not benefit from this degree of pruning.
After Pruning: Maintenance
Neatly shaped near the home to maintain scale, structure, and curb appeal. When plants are near roads or walkways, they will be shaped away from it to improve clearance, visibility, and appearance.
What to Expect After Pruning
- New growth may begin to appear within 4-8 weeks, depending on the plant, season, weather, and care.
- Consistent watering supports recovery and healthy regrowth.
- Plants may look sparse at first, but their appearance improves as new growth returns.
- Healthy, balanced landscapes take time and the right care.
