Bland Landscaping, a full-service commercial landscaping and estate gardening company, received the 2012 Sir Walter Raleigh Volunteer Initiative Award from the City of Raleigh’s Sir Walter Raleigh Awards for Community Appearance.
The award recognized the company for their 2009 volunteer project at the Joel Lane House. As part of Earth Day, Bland Landscaping provided property improvements and repairs, including the installation of an historically-accurate brick paver walkway, repairs to the irrigation system, and the historically-accurate replacement and construction of cedar cordon training structures. To preserve historical and cultural significance, all work was completed with a balance of modern and historically-accurate techniques.
The 2012 Sir Walter Raleigh Awards were held October 9, 2012 at the new Nature Research Center in downtown Raleigh. This year marks the 30th anniversary of the awards that recognize contributions to the character, environment, and appearance of the City of Raleigh.
