Over-mulching, especially when piled high against a tree trunk, can do more harm than good. While mulch helps retain moisture and suppress weeds, excessive amounts create a perfect environment for rot, pests, and disease. It can also suffocate roots and stunt growth.
Healthy mulching means 2–3 inches of mulch, spread evenly, and kept away from the trunk flare. Your trees (and your landscape) will thank you.
Just remember, anybody can cut grass… just because they can do that doesn’t mean they’re qualified to manage the health of your landscape.
