What led you to Bland Landscaping, and how long have you been with the company?
I wanted a career change that would be a better fit for me and my family. After moving back to NC, I was referred by my brother-in-law. I was drawn to the reputation, services offered, and community involvement. I started as an Enhancement Foreman and, after six months, transitioned into the Enhancement Production Manager role. I’ve now been with Bland Landscaping for almost three and a half years!
What does a typical day look like for you?
I arrive 15 to 30 minutes before my team at 6:30 a.m. to review my schedule, check emails, and prepare. Once crews are dispatched, I approve timesheets, respond to emails, create job folders, assign PO numbers, update my calendar, and visit jobsites. On-site, I ensure safety protocols are followed, tasks are done properly, and materials are on schedule. Communication is essential.
What does working at Bland mean to you?
It represents my future and professional growth. The advancement opportunities motivate me to continue developing. I enjoy the people and the culture. Seeing a project through to completion brings real accomplishment.
What strategies do you use during high-demand seasons?
I focus on management and scheduling. I assign work based on strengths, which helps with efficiency and margins. I also provide On-the-Job Training, especially around time management and planning.
Can you share a project you’re proud of?
My first large-scale job as a Foreman tested my ability to manage people and multiple components. It included sod, river rock, edging, seeding/straw, and plants. Time management, oversight, and task delegation were key.
What advice would you give to someone looking to grow their landscaping career?
Always strive to be the best you can be and keep growing. Take pride in your work.
A huge shout-out to Darren and the Durham Enhancement Team! Your dedication, teamwork, and passion continue to raise the bar every day. We’re proud to spotlight you and the outstanding leadership you bring to the field.
