Volunteering at the Friendly City Citivan Club

In recognition of Veterans Day, several members of our Raleigh-Durham Bland Landscaping Enhancement Teams spent the day volunteering at the Friendly City Civitan Club, a community center in Durham, NC. The center is used by Vets to Vets United, Inc, a local nonprofit led by Terry Morris, D.V.M., Ph.D. They do remarkable work to support veterans and rescue animals.

Founded in 2012, Vets to Vets United connects veterans facing challenges such as loneliness, depression, PTSD, and physical disabilities with rescue animals that provide service, therapy, and companionship — all while helping reduce animal euthanasia rates across North Carolina.

Together, our crews installed 50 azaleas, donated by WRAL, and refreshed the landscape beds surrounding the center. This effort helped create a welcoming outdoor space for those who visit and work there. Thank you Alina Cochran and Andy Cochran for connecting us to such a fulfilling project. Thank you Jason Smith for facilitating resources.

A special thank you to Kurt Bland and the Bland Landscaping Company team for not only installing the azaleas, but also going above and beyond by cleaning up the area around the training center and installing fresh pine straw. Your generosity and professionalism truly shine.
