Seeing red? We recently provided a Euglena treatment for a client’s pond (see before and after images below), and it was a great reminder that algae comes in many colors. But the right treatment makes all the difference. Keep reading to learn more.
What is Euglena?
Unlike standard green algae, which are strictly plant-like, Euglena is a unique organism that shares characteristics with both plants and animals.
When exposed to intense sunlight, it produces a red pigment to protect itself, most often turning the color of the water’s surface a rusty or blood red.
It’s also mobile, meaning it can move through the water column unlike most common pond algae.
